Oro Rua Taonga Pūoro Podcast launch

Oro Rua Tonga Pūoro Podcast

A passion project of mine is working with Taonga Pūoro practitioners to increase the use and awareness of our traditional Māori musical instruments.

I was honoured when the Haumanu Collective asked me to work on a podcast series with them. Tonight we launched the Oro Rua Haumanu Collective Taonga Pūoro podcast where mātanga kōrero and wānanga about taonga puoro with some of the foremost practitioners in the crafting and performance of traditional Māori musical instruments.

We launched the first official episode on this evening of Wednesday 29 June 2022 from here at Te Papa, in conjunction with the Te Ara Haumanu Concert.

In this episode we have the pleasure of listening to the wonderful Dr Aroha Yates-Smith as she reminisces about her experience with Taonga Pūoro artists, in amongst stories of special memories, life accomplishments and spirituality.

The process has been fascinating in recording the speakers in studio, mixing down to a complete audio file and then uploading to distribution. For this I have used Podbean as a core server and then distributed the files automatically via API to Spotify, Amazon, iHeart Radio, PlayerFM, Samsung, Podchaser, YouTube, Facebook and the Haumanu Collective website

Here’s a sample of the introductory audio.
