Lunar Pumpkin

Giant Pumpkin
Harvested the pumpkin in the corner of the garden today. Originally this pumpkin plant was bought to be ground cover for a corner of the garden which normally gets very dry over the summer and causes the soil to become dry arid and solid. We didn’t expect it to grow such a large pumpkin at all. It’s amazing what you can do with $2.50 😂 we didn’t use any fertilisers as such. We simply planted in accordance with our Māori Maramataka-a-mara (lunar planting calendar) which works on the lunar calendar and phases of the moon. I wanted to wait a few more days before harvesting this one but the torrential rain ☔️ forced my hand and I needed to pull it out. The pumpkin plant did a great job of keeping the soil moist through the season and now I’ll dig it into the ground as organic matter and get some air into the soil.
