Recently there was a request to perform more acoustic, less metal/heavy rock edge sound at our regular gig. So with that our drummer Emilio, decided to pick up the acoustic guitar and play a set. Reece plays drums and eventually they swap with Reece going over to acoustic and eventually picking up his electric guitar. I decided to bring my double bass to work and use that to give the gig a different sound and the audience something different to look at.
There’s a lot of intrigue and interest in the double bass. Many people ask if it is some kind of Cello and when I explain that it’s an acoustic double bass they seem to appreciate it at a deeper level. A full body double bass would be a really nice touch but quite impracticable for the use. Even though it has been cool to play with and use in this setting and I can feel my hands re-adujsting to the instrument again after a few years being unplayed.
